Minutes approved from previous Board Meeting of November 7, 2006

Secretary Items

  • Still need remaining board members to complete volunteer forms for WSP background checks, including drivers licences.
  • Getting access to process them through WSP.

Finance

Don not present.  Email sent earlier regarding his absence. Detailed report will be at January 2007 meeting.

Offseason workouts

Continuing.  No real news.

Registration

Report by Julie Byram

  • Registration counts via handouts as of 12/4/06
  • Baseball: TBall-38, Rookie-52, AA-63, AAA-60, Minors Eligible-66, Majors Eligible-58, Jr-21, Sr-3
  • Softball: Farm-23, Rookie-31, Minors-29, Majors-9, Jr-2, Sr-0
  • Numbers are lower than last year by up to 10%, so far.
  • 16 Waivers requested, for children to play in WLL and live outside of the district boundaries.  Most of these are Lake of the Woods East, Fallbrooke, and just west of Cottage Lake Elementary.
  • Will need to discuss boundary change / possible annexation for 2008.
  • Face to Face Registration, with Woodinville West.  January 6th.  Possibly at the Woodinville Library?

 

2007 Manager Selection

  • Committee members (President, VP, UIC and 2 board members).
  • Julie Byram and Barbara Ching added to committee by motion – passed.
  • Meeting for selection is Thursday, Dec 28th @ 7pm  Jack’s house.
  • All levels for baseball will be discussed and selected.

Jr/Sr and Softball

  • Discussion of registration numbers.
  • Registration numbers are 10% lower than last year, to date.
  • Will need to combine with Woodinville West again.
  • Discussion of costs and coordination, to ensure we pay our fair share.

At Large Member

Todd Bult, nominated and motion passed, to become the WLL Board At-Large member.

NAF/Interleague/D8 Update

Report by Paul Johnson

  • Official Name is the Northshore Athletic Fields, not “The Complex”
  • Washington State 501(3)(c) entity
  • Members: Woodinville, Woodinville West, Northshore, and North Bothell
  • Purpose:  Operation and Maintenance of the facility, and fundraising for the facility.
  • 3 Directors
    • Russell Sarbora, Position: President, Member of Northshore LL
    • Brett Bader, Woodinville West
    • Paul Johnson, Position: Secretary, Member of Woodinville LL
  • Paul’s responsibilities include Maintenance, Concessionaire
  • 3 Committees: Finance, Operations, and Outreach
  • 2 Planned Committees: Fundraising and Capital Improvements.
  • Will need help on committees.  Looking for volunteers.
  • NAF has a lawyer and architect, both pro-bono
  • NAF needs improvements:
    • To blend in with winery, brewery, new facilities under construction
    • Field 5 is horrible.  Under renovation
    • Beautification, Parking Lot renovation, new/permanent concession stand
    • Fundraising is underway
    • Won’t all be done by spring, but we are moving forward with both short-term and long-term plans.
  • Investigation of renting out the facilities to other baseball clubs, organizations, school districts, etc.
  • Discussion of lease agreement extension beyond current lease of 2015 with King County.  Possibly to 2045 or 2060.
  • Again, looking for volunteers to help on committees.

 

NAF items for WLL

From Jack Winter.

  • 4 LL Presidents request that Field 5 be ready for the opening of LL season, 3/18 or 3/25.
  • Field Day for NAF and School Fields, March 11th
  • WLL takes field 3 & 4 for our Field Day.
  • Northshore Field designations occur in January.  Same 4 fields.  We will share with other leagues.
  • Jamboree 4/21

Calendar

  • New calendar posted on the web site.
  • Meetings, events, picture day, practice start, game start, playoffs, TOC, training sessions, etc., all posted.

Player Review

  • Baseball, 1/27/07
  • Softball, 1/28 and 1/31
  • Jr/Sr – Discussion of having one for Jr/Sr.  There hasn’t been one in the past. Rob Schwend will help coordinate, if we have one.

TOC

  • Motion passed to have WLL participate again.
  • Dates: 5/30/07 to 6/15/07, estimated.
  • WLL will host the web site posting and updates.

 

Uniforms:

Report by Kerri Fredrickson

  • Baseball uniforms will be handed out to managers on equipment pickup day
  • Will investigate if we will handles Softball & Jr/Sr uniforms.
  • Would like to order soon

Special report by John Hamilton

  • Pitching machine
    • Name: Ultimate Pitching Machine.
    • Woodinville West used them last year.
    • Cost is $150 each
    • Proposal is to assign one to each coach as part of the “equipment package”
    • Replacement parts are available for $20.
    • Coordination of user settings was discussed.
  • Motion to purchase enough units for each team at Rookie, AA, and Softball levels
    • Tabled (see below).
  • Portable Mounds
    • Type:  Synthetic Rubber, 60 lbs, easy to store, holds up to the weather, 6” tall, astroturf top
    • Manufacturer: Port-o-lite
    • Used at the school fields.
    • Cost is $710
    • Discussed sharing cost with Woodinville West at Cottage Lake Elementary.
    • Needs to be stored and locked.  Logistics to be investigated.
  • Motion to purchase 4 portable mounds and storage/locking mechanisms (2 for Eastridge, Cottage Lake, Bear Creek) AND purchase enough pitching devices for each team at the Rookie, AA, and Softball levels.
    • Vote approved unanimously.

Fundraising Report

  • $800 for a sign at the NAF.
  • 2006 - $3,750 raised in fundraising for signs.
  • 2007 – goal is $5,000
  • Microsoft matching: Brought in ~$4,000 in 2006,  Goal is $5,000 in 2007.
  • Jamboree:  In 2006, raised $4,100.  Goal is $5,000 for 2007

Breakaway bases:

  • Required by Little League USA for 2008 season.
  • NAF is purchasing them and is going to use them this year at the NAF fields.
  • We will need to discuss usage of them for 2007, including purchase, installation, and usage.  Will be discussed at the January meeting.
