Registration Update – Rob Schwend
Registrations down so far this year. We have 439 registrations as of Jan 5 – about 100 less than normal. Baseball is down – softball about the same. Returning eligible majors all but 6 and 3 of those are likely to sign up. There are 207 kids (both softball and baseball) that played last year but have not signed up for this year. The list of names was passed around and board members volunteered to call each one.
Manager selections will be made by this weekend by Dave Kummerlowe, Eric Michske, John Hamilton, Rob Schwend, and Mich Earl.
Discussion was made regarding possibly adding late fees or increasing the fees for those who register after the deadline, but it was suggested that we just put on the web site that registrations after the deadline will be waitlisted. Steve Davis suggested possible discount for early registration for incentive to be considered for next year
.
One parent has requested a scholarship for $115. Motioned was approved.
Player Review:
Big League Connection, Saturday the 5th and Saturday 12th, (11 and 12’s on the 5th and 9 and 10’s on the 12th). The 12th is getting full with 9 & 10’s – may possibly have some 9 & 10’s tryout on 5th. John Hamilton organizing player tryout times, etc.
Volunteers needed from the board to help out at player review. We are still looking for the original pennies from the league for player review.
Safety and Picture Day – Dave Kummerlowe:
Annual Safety Clinic will be held on Monday, Feb 8, 6:30 to 8:30 Cottage Lake Cafeteria. Roger Kacmarcik introduced himself. He will be helping Dave with 1st aid and safety. Bag tags are done. AED defibrillator training (and CPR) is planned for March or April. Whenever get a date we will work on getting other leagues involved. Updates on cards for umpires.
Picture Day - March 19:
WWLL may do it at the same time at Timbercrest. Photos will be taken in the carpeted room instead of cafeteria for better lighting.
WSP checks have a new form to fill out Mich has volunteered to do the WSP checks. We are required as a league to do background checks on all board members and anyone who has contact with the kids – including team moms. This must be done annually. We currently go through Wash State Patrol on line it is free because we are non-profit. We need a copy of everyone’s driver’s licenses so we now have a portable copier to do this. Hard copies will be kept with Mich.
Roger, Dave K, Rob and John went through the equipment shed and organized and labeled everything in bags. We have a good supply of McGregor helmets but we cannot find faceguards that will work on them. Looking for somewhere to donate them to. If we get anymore helmets Dave suggested the one size fits all ones to accommodate the most kids.
WLL adopted the position that any league helmet would have a faceguard. We have 50 helmets that we need to put faceguards on. Rob asked if we should purchase more helmets to have enough for every team. Dave K suggested that we need about 80 new helmets to have enough for every team to have 6 helmets. Motion was made to spend $1600 for 80 helmets. Motion passed by majority vote.
It was then discussed if we should require all personal helmets to have a faceguard as well. Should it be a league or parent decision? Dave K shared testimonies that he has received. Lengthy discussion followed. Motion was made that WLL policy will be extended from League helmets only be required to have faceguard to all helmets will be required to have faceguards. Motioned pass by majority vote. Dave K will do a one-page flier with specifics on buying helmets for the parents.
Mouthguards at this time are not mandatory but strongly recommended by WLL. Looking for donations from local dentists. Include recommendation in one page flier from Dave K. Most dentists will give them to patients free.
TOC Schedule:
Other leagues requested that we send 2 teams from each bracket to the playoffs which means we would need to extend the tournament by a couple of days. Discussion followed. Brad Powell said it could be done and still fit within our timeline. Paul and Rob will discuss it this weekend at the Inter League meeting.
Jamboree:
Date choices are April 23 or 30. Proposed to do Jamboree on April 30. Motion passed.
Sponsorship: Paul Johnson
We have 4 new sponsors this year. Paul Johnson is still looking for more. Please let him know if you have any ideas or contacts. May do some fundraising at the jamboree.
Meeting adjourned 8:05 PM
Respectfully Submitted,
Reesie Vintertun
