Information for Managers
Please help identify umpire candidates from your team so that the league is able to meet its umpiring requirements.
League Objective:
To develop a sustainable pool of trained volunteer umpires to meet the umpiring needs of the league during the regular season as well as the league commitments for participation in post-season tournaments.
Majors/Minors Per Game:
At least two Umpires per game. A plate umpire that is not associated with either team at Majors; may be associated to a team at Minors. Field umpire(s) may be associated with one or both of the teams.
AAA/AA Per Game:
One or two umpires. The visiting team will provide the plate umpire. The home team may provide a field umpire. During coach-pitch innings at AA, the home plate umpire should position him or herself behind the pitcher in the field and manage the pitch count. “Bad” coach pitches should not be counted against the hitter in these innings.
Majors/Minors Per Team:
At least two volunteer umpires per team; may be a parent, teenage sibling, or another relative. Each umpire would plate umpire for one game per week and may serve as the field umpire for a team game. The field umpire also serves as a backup to the plate umpire in the event of a no-show.
AAA/AA Per Team:
At least one volunteer umpire per team; may be a parent, teenage sibling, or another relative.
Majors/Minors Umpire Scheduling:
The Umpire-In-Chief (UIC) manages umpire scheduling. Umpire schedules are available on-line at www.d8umpires.org. Managers should verify coverage for their games on the website.
Make-Up Games:
With lead-time (one week), you should contact the Umpire-in-Chief. With a shorter lead-time, look to your Team Umpire or contact an umpire directly (check with the originally scheduled umpire). It is acceptable to use a Team Umpire behind the plate in a make-up situation.
AAA/AA Umpire Scheduling:
The AAA/AA Managers work with their Team Umpires to ensure game coverage.
Umpire Training:
The Umpire-In-Chief works to make sure umpires at all levels have adequate training.
